OCCUPATIONAL HYGIENE IN SECUNDA
Secunda is built around one of the world's largest coal-to-liquids and chemical complexes, and most of its workforce is employed by the contractors, engineering firms and service companies that support it.
Qualitas carries out occupational hygiene surveys for these employers: hazardous chemical agent monitoring, noise surveys, welding fume monitoring and heat stress surveys, including before and during shutdowns.

OUR SERVICES IN SECUNDA
- How should a contractor plan exposure monitoring for a shutdown?
Do the risk assessment before mobilisation, using the task list for the shutdown, and book monitoring for the highest-risk tasks while they are happening. Results that arrive after the shutdown still prove compliance and inform the next one.
Is benzene monitoring done by an AIA?
Benzene is a hazardous chemical agent, and the Regulations for Hazardous Chemical Agents, 2021 require monitoring by an approved inspection authority. Qualitas is a DEL AIA for hazardous chemical agents.
Can noise and chemicals affect hearing together?
Yes. Some solvents, such as toluene and styrene, damage hearing on their own and add to the effect of noise. Where both are present, the risk assessment should consider them together.
