ASBESTOS SURVEY & INVENTORY
Asbestos is a naturally occurring mineral previously used in building materials for its insulation and fire-resistant properties. Many older buildings still contain asbestos-containing materials that may pose a health risk if disturbed or deteriorating.
An asbestos survey and inventory identify the presence, condition, and location of asbestos-containing materials to support effective risk management.

WHY IS ASBESTOS A RISK?
Exposure to asbestos fibres may result in asbestosis; lung cancer; mesothelioma; other serious and irreversible respiratory diseases.
There is no known safe level of exposure to asbestos fibres.
Employers are legally required to identify and manage asbestos in the workplace in terms of the Occupational Health and Safety Act (85 of 1993); Asbestos Abatement Regulations, 2020; Mine Health and Safety Act (29 of 1996), where applicable.
An asbestos inventory is a legal requirement for premises where asbestos-containing materials may be present.
