NOISE SURVEY & ASSESSMENT
Workplace noise is a common occupational hazard that can negatively affect employee health, safety, and productivity. Noise is typically generated by machinery, tools, vehicles, and industrial processes, and prolonged exposure can result in permanent hearing damage.
A noise survey identifies and evaluates employee exposure to harmful noise levels and determines compliance with South African occupational health and safety legislation.
WHY IS WORKPLACE NOISE A RISK?
Excessive or prolonged exposure to noise may lead to noise-induced hearing loss (NIHL), tinnitus (ringing in the ears), reduced concentration and communication, increased fatigue and accident risk, reduced productivity and increased absenteeism.
Noise-related hearing loss is permanent but preventable through proper assessment and control.
Employers are legally required to assess and control employee exposure to noise in terms of the Occupational Health and Safety Act (No 85 of 1993), Noise Exposure Regulations, 2024 and the Mine Health and Safety Act (No 29 of 1996).
